MGF/TF Cup front bumper
Hi, I saw a topic regarding the front bumper of Cup Cars and the question why they have those small holes ? When all cup F's were still racing as F's and not as converted TF's, they were some who blocked part of the grill's to reach the operating temperature after a shorter warmup period. Have a look at this pic You will notice a blocked upper part of the grills and additional cooling (?) slots at the bottom. So I am not sure if they are for additional water cooling.

Re: MGF/TF Cup front bumper
Good question Erik. Could it maybe have something to do with brake cooling (like Bruno did) ? Well, the hole sizes are very small but that's the only thing I could actually think of

Re: MGF/TF Cup front bumper
What else should they be for? Because of the blocked parts of the grills they get the operating temperature faster. But during a race it could be, that they would get some problems with the temperature (missing airstream). So i assume that the seperate holes could be for an oil-cooler. The position in the frontbumper would make sense. Another reason for the closed grill could be that you have some advantage in aerodynamics and as a result a better stability on higher speeds. But these are only guesses. Probably a professional racer could solve this quest?

Re: MGF/TF Cup front bumper
Also on the Mira hybrid TF the upper part in the front is blocked, because enough fresh air is streaming through the lower opening in the front bumper.

Re: MGF/TF Cup front bumper
Erik, cheers mate, it's this one from Spa CupCar race back in Y2000, is it ? Back in 2000 when we visited the last MGF Cup race in Spa together with Ted and the other 'treffeners'... My pics at http://www.mgfcar.de/event/mgf_treffen_2k/day9.htmI think you will have thousands of more !! However, can't anyone identify the team/owner and ask direct ? Ron Gammons for instance or who ever. As for other racers, the only other CupCar owner I know is Jörg Kirch. (Dropped him a PM, may be he pops in and says some words.) BTW, who takes notice that not any of the Cup Cars is equipped with a front spoiler or splitter

Re: MGF/TF Cup front bumper
Ooops, I just found it is Number 29. We should ask Keith Williams, cause he may have good connections to the race scene. Doc Rob Bell was spot on also, nearly jumping in

Re: MGF/TF Cup front bumper
Ralph Gadsby has one, I've just spoken to him at work, where he has just walked to the car, it's in their showroom at his garage.
It is standard fitment on the Cup car, it is for the oil cooler which is the same width as the radiator and it's about 7cm's deep. It's situated directly below and in front of the main radiator, therefore behind the slots as shown on the pictures.

Re: MGF/TF Cup front bumper
Thanks Adrian. Could you please organise pictures from the setup and also the references of the oil cooler. Thanks in advance.

Re: MGF/TF Cup front bumper
Hi Pascal, here is the picture of Ralph's car. Andrew in Australia says that it would interfere with the a/c condenser though.

Re: MGF/TF Cup front bumper
I wasn't sure about the oil to air cooler, as these cars are all equiped with a dry sump system (more ideal for cooling as well) The car is/was from Techspeed.
